Director
David is a director for Mace Sustain and his remit covers CDM coordination, community regeneration, sustainability and SHEonline. He joined Mace in 2001, working on a number of major construction projects before a promotion to operations director and finally becoming one of the founding directors of Mace Sustain, alongside John Hanley.
David moved into safety, health and environmental management in the mid-1990's after previously training in law. He joined Wolverhampton Council as a health and safety enforcement officer before moving into construction with Tarmac and positions on a number of large projects including the Jubilee Line Extension Project, Manchester Airport Second Runway and the latter stages of phase one of the M77 extension project.
During his time with Mace, David has worked on a number of commissions including health and safety roles on City Hall and Ernst and Young Building at More London and on a global framework for a major petrochem client including projects in the UK, Libya and UAE and major community regeneration programmes for the European Social Fund, London Development Agency and Learning and Skills Council.
David is currently studying for a masters degree in health and safety law and environmental law at the University of Salford, with a focus on international law relating to sustainability.
One of David's current priorities is to coordinate our approach to sustainability, in terms of the socio-economic benefits to communities from local employment and training programmes and minimising environmental impacts of our construction clients.
David was born in Northern Ireland and was brought up in Scotland. David now lives in south east London with his wife.
