The directors of Mace Plus paid a visit to Sandy Lane Primary School in Bracknell to help the children as part of the Mace Group's volunteer day programme.
The programme encourages staff to take a day out of work and give something back to the community. Mace Plus managing director Mark Castle did just this by taking part in a day of environmental projects with the local school children, using left over material from a neighbouring project.
Mark Castle was joined by directors Terry Spraggett, Terry Nea and Stephen Henley who spent the day building bug-houses from materials including timber pallets, roof tiles, air bricks and plastic pipes from nearby Garth Hill College, to improve the children's knowledge and interest of insects and local wildlife.
The afternoon saw the directors tasked with clearing woodland surrounding the school, which had become overgrown. The Mace Plus team cut back branches, bushes and plants to clear the area and provide usable pathways for the school.
Managing director Mark Castle said: "We had a thoroughly enjoyable day working alongside the children and we were impressed with their knowledge of how building materials could be used. A number of the children were keen to offer their help if we needed it to finish building the Garth Hill College project next door to the Sandy Lane Primary School!"
As a legacy to the school, Mace Plus donated a sponsored trophy to headteacher Liz Norris. The trophy will be awarded at the school's annual year end assembly and will be presented to the best performing team for sporting or academic activity.
