Como appointed by KPMG on Birmingham's largest fit out job

11/06/2009

Como, the fit-out contracting arm of Mace Group, has secured its first commission in Birmingham for new client KPMG. Located in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter at One Snowhill, the project is currently the biggest fit out job in Birmingham, covering 120,000 sq ft of space.

Works comprise the fit out of levels seven to 11 and the ground floor reception from shell and core to Cat B. This fast track fit out is due for completion in October 2009, with five sectional completions taking place over the 30-week construction period and an early handover of the communications room.

Designed by MCM Architecture, the project incorporates several interesting features and high specification finishes in the ground floor reception, auditorium and private dining areas. Also included in the works is a staff restaurant, break out area and kitchen on level 10, which will supply the private dining areas on level 11.

Some of the key challenges on this project include working with and around the incumbent base build contractor and later in the project, the craneage of the standby generator up on the roof and the associated riser works.

Project team comprises Turner and Townsend, project manager, Rider Levett Bucknall, costs consultant and White Young Green, M&E consultants.

This is the first regional project for Como, however Mace Group has a strong regional presence in the UK with major projects including Birmingham New Street Station redevelopment and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
