College conversion

In 2005 Mace completed the conversion of the Queen Elizabeth College building into The Phillimores, a residential scheme comprising 68 high quality apartments.

Appointed as project manger by client WestCity Properties, Mace used innovative techniques to extensively renovate and refurbish the Queen Elizabeth College building and successfully deliver this project in central London.

While most of the existing building was extensively refurbished, parts were completely or partly demolished utilising a facade retention system. The demolished parts were re-built with reinforced concrete structures and brick facades to match those on the lower levels.

The scheme included below ground leisure centre and car park facilities supported on piles with contiguous piled walls and extensive landscaping. Extensive underpinning and column extension was needed in order to maximise the occupied area below the existing building and civil engineering works alone took approximately 12 months.

Features

* Listed building
* Restrictive site
* Façade retention and underpinning
* High quality residential
* High quality fit out and finishes

 Members of the Sense team provided cost planning support to Mace Ltd on this high quality development.
