Information
Mace's role as project executive involved the day-to-day management and co-ordination of the project team delivering the various component schemes, which serve to make up the overall Sheffield Station Gateway development.
The project commenced on site in early 2004. The key project partners (Sheffield One, Sheffield City Council, South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, Network Rail and Midland Mainline), along with their funding partners (English Partnerships, Yorkshire Forward and the Strategic Rail Authority), set a new standard in co-operation to achieve an ambitious step-change in the station environment.
The scheme comprised a number of discrete projects totalling approximately £78 million. The main elements were:
- Creation of a new public square
- Realignment of an inner relief route
- Refurbishment of Sheffield Station (including concourse and platforms)
- A new commercial development valued at £30m
