Media spotlight on Mace Living affordable homes project

13/01/2009
Mace Living recently completed work on Weedington Road, an affordable housing scheme offering modern 1-bed and studio accommodation to a wide range of "key workers". Our client Pocket Living has gained a lot of attention for creating desirable first homes at prices that are open to a wider range of buyers and plans to build up to 500 a year. Given the current economic climate it is no surprise that the media has picked up on this development in London's residential market and the scheme has been covered in the Evening Standard, The Times Bricks and Mortar supplement, Metro and TimesOnline.
David Spittles, writing in the Evening Standard, comments that many would-be buyers are "salaried out of the social housing and unable to get on the property ladder because of still-too-high prices, many are trapped in unsuitable and often expensive private rented flats". The design makes innovative use of space and as Jayne Atherton notes in Metro, "all apartments have floor-to-ceiling windows to flood rooms with light. They also have built-in wardrobes and hall storage large enough to store a bicycle."
