Mace team takes part in British Waterway's Tow Path Tidy 2009

01/05/2009
Staff from Mace's Midlands regional office took part in British Waterway's Towpath Tidy 2009 at Icknield Port Loop depot. The event is supported by the Campaign to Protect Rural England, the Inland Waterways Association, a number of canal societies and trusts and Encams who are responsible for the Keep Britain Tidy Campaign.
Towpath Tidy is a nationwide event and Mace staff in the Midlands certainly had their work cut out for them: the whole Birmingham Canal Navigations system extends for 100 miles in total. It is one of the most intricate canal networks in the world.
Appealing to those who use the nation's waterways throughout the UK such as boaters, walkers, cyclists and commuters, the event enabled a staggering 70 tonnes of rubbish to be collected and helped spruce up 75km of canal and organised three depots for the summer.
