Mace secures a place on Bolton Council framework

20/03/2007

Mace has been appointed to Bolton Council's project and programme management frameworks running for the next four years. This appointment has led to Mace securing commissions for the first two projects within the framework: Central Street Redevelopment and Bolton’s Innovation Zone, which includes the Knowledge Campus and the Cultural Quarter.

The Central Street project is a £100m mixed-use regeneration scheme designed by Reid Architects, which includes a 115,000 sq.ft. anchor store, approximately 60 apartments and a further 235,000 sq.ft. of retail space. Over 800 car parking spaces will be provided in addition to improvements to the public realm and riverside. The construction programme is due to start in autumn 2009 (subject to a successful CPO) and completion is scheduled for spring 2011.

Bolton’s Innovation Zone offers a great opportunity for future development within both the public and private sectors. Potential developments include the modernisation and extension of the museum, aquarium and art gallery, the design and construction of a creative arts centre, the provision of a town centre swimming pool and a state of the art knowledge centre for both students and the general public. Relocation of the bus station together with the rationalisation of other parcels of land will also give rise to some exceptional town centre development opportunities.
