Mace project shortlisted for Homes and Communities Academy Award

20/03/2009
Croydon Council's Urban Regeneration Vehicle (CCURV) has been shortlisted for a Homes and Communities Academy Award in the “New Ventures – Delivering Growth and Renewal in Challenging Markets” category. Mace is currently working with CCURV on the implementation of a £450m mixed-use regeneration scheme for the London borough. CCURV is up against other shortlisted projects including Adelaide Wharf, London and the North Solihull Partnership.
The awards are managed on behalf of the government by the HCA Academy. Formerly known as the Deputy Prime Minister's Award for Sustainable Communities and latterly the Creating the Future awards, they have been running since 2003. Working to celebrate successful developments and community-based projects in the public, private and third sectors, the HCA Academy Awards promote organisations, partnerships and individuals helping to transform our cities, towns, villages and neighbourhoods. Previous winners include the River Nene regional park and Accent Community Partnerships, Bradford.
2009 finalist CCURV is the UK’s first local authority led asset backed vehicle, the result of a long term partnership between Croydon Council and developer John Laing. Over the lifetime of the partnership it is expected to deliver new council buildings for the borough, 1,500 new homes and improvements to the public realm. The London based URV is expected to be the first in a wave of similar LA led ventures across the country with proposals of an extension to the vehicle to help tackle some of the other priority regeneration sites in the borough.
Winners will be announced on 4th June at an award ceremony held at the Roundhouse in Camden.
