Mace Plus scores high with Considerate Contractors Scheme

02/11/2009
Mace Plus have achieved a score of 36.5 out of 40 from the Considerate Constructors Scheme on the Evelyn Grace Academy in south London. The high score means the school is classified as 'an exceptionally good site' and results in an increase from its previous score of 34.
The school was highlighted for excellent practices including the accommodation of 180 pupils and staff within temporary school buildings located within the confines of the site, which were designed and constructed to make them appear permanent. Great efforts were made to minimise any disruption to teaching activities by the ongoing site activities. In addition the temporary structure is designed and constructed in such a manner that it that it can be dismantled and re-used in the future.
As with all Mace Plus sites, waste management is a key area and the segregation of multiple waste streams that was implemented at Evelyn Grace achieved a 80-85% recycling rate. Overall, the site was proclaimed a thoroughly professional site that encompasses a comprehensive approach to issues covered by the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
Project manager Roy Conway said: "I'm pleased the score reflects all the hard work that went into the project and want to thank all those involved for their extra efforts."
