Mace Group wins two-year waste job with Hertfordshire County Council

24/03/2009

Mace Group's waste sector team has won a two-year appointment with client Hertfordshire County Council, having previously secured a place on its waste infrastructure framework. One of 30 companies that expressed interest and eight that submitted full tenders, Mace was reappointed.

Sector director Paul Higgins said: "The team's approach is to integrate with the council's delivery team and this demonstrated that we are focused on understanding their exact needs."

The council's programme manager Bryony Rothwell said: "I'm very pleased that Mace will continue to work alongside us, helping in the development of a successful waste procurement programme. Mace recognised Hertfordshire's unique challenges and provided both flexibility and good value."

Mace Group has a long-standing relationship with HCC. In October 2007, HCC commissioned Mace to assist in ensuring the appropriate infrastructure is in place by 2015 to deal with the county's residual municipal solid waste for the next 30 years. Extensive capital investment is required to construct new treatment and disposal infrastructure and HCC is following guidance from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and applying for PFI credits to support the implementation of its long-term waste solution.

Waste management is one of the biggest challenges facing local authorities, which are under pressure from both the EU and central government to dramatically reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
