Mace Group named one of the top 75 firms in The Good Employer Guide 2008

Mace Group has once again been ranked within the top 75 firms in The Good Employer Guide 2008, published by Building magazine. The top ranked companies were chosen from all firms within the British construction industry willing to take part and the winners were selected according to how their staff rated them in a questionnaire.
Staff were asked to grade their firms on six criteria: corporate social responsibility, smarter working, the feel good factor, inspiration, leadership and ability to contribute. Using these factors, Building created a questionnaire suitable for comparing various companies within the industry in search of the best companies to work for.
Comparisons were made between each company's package and the benefits offered over and above salaries and bonuses. In addition, employers were asked to describe the sectors they worked in and their staff demographic. Flexitime, paternity leave, study leave, sabbaticals and career breaks are some of the key factors that determine people's choice of employer. The guide also revealed the extent to which women are under-represented in the construction industry, even among its best employers.
The average percentage of female non-support staff among contractors is 10%. Engineers are a little better with 13% and 14% for consultants. The exception is architecture, where 27% of all employees are female.
Mace Group's top benefits according to the survey results are the annual BUPA health check, health insurance and leave for volunteering. The group scored highest in the corporate responsibility, inspiration and ability to contribute categories. Factors contributing to the uniqueness of the Mace Group are cited as international career development opportunities, comprehensive training, mentoring and hands-on experience.
The survey was compiled from about 30,000 questionnaires which were sent to employees across the industry.
