Como wins Construction Manager of the Year award 2008

05/11/2008

Como project manager John Darling won a gold award at last night's CIOB Construction Manager of the Year awards at the Grosvenor Hotel. Now in its 30th year, these awards aim to recognize outstanding individual performances and are highly sought after in the industry.

John, entered for his work on the 20 Victoria Street project for The Attorney General's Office, had some stiff competition in the 'Projects up to £7m' category, with nine other finalists in the running, among them managers from Ibex, Wates and Carillion.

Due to the high profile nature of the client, the fast track project was extremely challenging with security a concern at all times. John developed good relationships with the team and made every effort to communicate regularly with all stakeholders in the project to manage expectations and to identify any potential pitfalls.

One of the key deliverables on the project was to achieve a ‘good' BREEAM rating and John spent many hours looking at ways to make this a reality. By finding ways to reuse material, using sustainable materials such as worktops made out of yoghurt pots, measuring water usage, monitoring delivery routes to name but a few, the project achieved an ‘very good' BREEAM rating. The project was delivered on time and budget to a delighted client.

Steve Root, Como's managing director, attended the dinner and commented, '‘I am delighted for John. His enthusiasm and dedication deserve to be recognised and we are thrilled to have someone of his calibre as part of our team. Congratulations John!'
